"Fighting In No Time": Ex-Teammate Reveals Devastating Details About Steelers' Decision To Reunite Aaron Rodgers With Mike McCarthy

When news first broke that the Pittsburgh Steelers wanted Aaron Rodgers for the 2025 season, it sparked major debate across the football world. On paper, the idea looked solid, but at his age and with his polarizing reputation, no one truly knew what version of Rodgers the Steelers were going to get. Fast forward, Rodgers led Pittsburgh to an AFC North championship and a 10-7 record. The Steelers even earned a home playoff game, but a 24-point loss quickly soured what otherwise looked like a successful year.

Rodgers was initially assumed to be a one and done in Pittsburgh, but that narrative has started to shift. With Mike McCarthy now entering his first year as the Steelers' new head coach, the possibility of a reunion in 2026 between quarterback and coach has significantly gained traction. Rodgers has not made a public decision yet, even after spending time in Pittsburgh, leaving the door open for speculation about what comes next.

That speculation took another turn when NFL journalist Tyler Dunne appeared on 93.7 The Fan on Monday. During the interview, he revealed that one of his sources shared concerning details about the Rodgers and McCarthy relationship from their past. The comments immediately raised questions about whether a second partnership in Pittsburgh would actually run smoothly or if the same issues could resurface at the worst possible time.

"There is a source I would probably describe him as a pro Aaron Rodgers source on that Bleacher Report story I wrote way back when," Dunne said. "I reached out to this player again when it looked like Rodgers and McCarthy would be joining forces once again here in Pittsburgh. I asked him how it was going to go down and at first he said Cinderella story and Super Bowl champs. I was shocked and asked if he was serious and he said no. He was kidding around and predicted they would be at each other's throats and fighting in no time. He saw this up close so I am sure they will say all the right things if they do rejoin forces here."

Rodgers is set to turn 43 years old during the 2026 season, so if he does play for the Steelers, it would almost certainly have to be his last. All eyes remain on what Rodgers may or may not do as the 2026 season rapidly approaches.

McCarthy entered an already difficult job, taking over a franchise with a storied history that has not had any meaningful success in well over a decade. Couple that with the challenge of navigating a player he coached for 13 seasons, but also had a sour ending with, and he now has plenty of questions to answer.

Steelers' McCarthy-Rodgers Reunion Raises Questions About Locker Room Concerns

McCarthy seems excited and appears to want Rodgers, but it is fair to question if that is truly what he wants as well. Hearing Dunne reveal what a player inside the locker room during those 13 seasons with the Green Bay Packers had to say about the potential reunion is something that should worry Steeler Nation, maybe a little.

The question now is whether the two can put their differences aside and work together for the duration of one season. It has been stated that they have a better relationship now, but no one truly knows what that means when it comes to Rodgers’ ever polarizing nature.
