The Pittsburgh Steelers have recently signed many candidates to Head Coach Mike McCarthy's new coaching staff. These hires include James Campen as their offensive line coach and a potential Hall of Famer, Jahri Evans, as their assistant offensive line coach. This experience will prove vital as the Steelers have many key, young pieces on their offensive line. These hires will help their young core continue to grow and establish themselves as a formidable unit.

Campen coached with McCarthy during their time in Green Bay and has established himself as a veteran NFL coach. Campen will bring plenty of experience to a young group that is really looking to put itself together. The unit did a nice job at keeping pressure off of Aaron Rodgers throughout the 2025 season, but is looking to take the next step. Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo had this to say about the group.

"The offensive line is becoming established. They proved they could protect Aaron," Fittipaldo explained. "They need to become a dominant force that can run in January. That's the next for these guys."

The Steelers believe they have the pieces for their unit to become the upper echelon that the league has to offer. They have many young pieces on their line, including core pieces on their interior, with guys like Zach Frazier and Mason McCormick. The Steelers are looking for them to go from really good to great in hopes of opening up the run game and making a playoff push. The team needs their offensive line to be a force if they hope to maintain the winning culture that the Steelers strive for. Pittsburgh hopes these hires will allow their young stars to leap into elite territory. Campen played in the NFL for seven seasons at center, and he could be the perfect mentor for star center Frazier to break out this season.

Steelers Assistant General Manager Andy Weidl has high expectations for his offensive line as well.

"Andy Weidl talked about [the offensive line] becoming that line that can travel in the playoffs and win you road playoff games," said Fittipaldo.

What's Next For The Steelers Offensive Line?

The Steelers know that they still have some work to do on the left side of the line. With Isaac Seumalo set to test free agency, the organization has a decision to make at the left guard spot. They could re-sign the 10-year veteran, but might want to think about plugging in versatile offensive lineman Spencer Anderson into the role. They have entrusted Anderson as a sixth lineman over the past two seasons. His role increased throughout the 2025 season; he lined up as an extra lineman, played in the tight end's spot, and even lined up in the backfield on occasion. Anderson could be a plug-and-play option for the Steelers at left guard. Another choice is drafting a young guard to fill the role.

Another potential position shake-up is at left tackle. With Dylan Cook entering the starting lineup because of Broderick Jones' injury, the Steelers have a decision to make. While filling in the role, Cook did a tremendous job. Cook earned respect from Steelers fans, coaches, and brass alike. Cook stepped in and stopped many of the league's elite pass rushers from getting to Rodgers. His ability to step in right away and provide quality production gives the Steelers hope for the future of the left tackle spot.

The Steelers head into the 2026 season with a bright future ahead of them on the offensive line. By bringing in veteran, experienced coaches, the Steelers hope their young stars will develop into what they hope to be a playoff or even championship caliber unit.
