The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Baltimore Ravens for the sixth time in the last seven meetings on Sunday, 17-10. If you include games that the Steelers’ starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and Kenny Pickett finished, the Steelers have beaten the Ravens eight times in a row. That includes a streak of four consecutive losses by Lamar Jackson in the rivalry with the duo of Roethlisberger and Pickett.

Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger revisits Lamar Jackson's struggles against the Steelers.

On Monday, Roethlisberger and Spencer Te’o returned to YouTube with the 38th episode of the Footbahlin With Ben Roethlisberger podcast. The dynamic duo usually samples a frosty beverage before breaking down the most recent game. Roethlisberger and Te’o broke with tradition and jumped straight into the Steelers' victory in this episode.

“They get first and goal on the four, and they can’t score,” Roethlisberger observed. “Baltimore’s supposed to be a running team that can get in. I feel like the Steelers have Lamar’s number. It seems like every time they play him, Steelers just get the defense.”

Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger Responds To "Bob Griffin" With Explosive Reply

Roethlisberger generated significant heat and overwhelming support when Jackson’s former backup, Bob Griffin, alias Robert Griffin III, ripped him on social media. Roethlisberger posited that forcing Jackson to stay in the pocket is what all defensive coordinators are trying to do. The Steelers do it better than the rest of the NFL regarding the former MVP. Griffin and other Jackson apologists did not appreciate the nuance of the observation.

In fairness, Jackson has only played against the Steelers six times. He beat Mason Rudolph and Lainey Wilson’s boyfriend, Devlin “Duck” Hodges, twice in 2019. He posted a 0-3 record against Roethlisberger. Pickett got off to a 1-0 vs the former MVP with the Steelers win that puts them in first place in the AFC North.

“Big win today for the Stillers beating them birds. Which we seem to be doing a lot.” Roethlisberger employed the colloquial pronunciation. “I think we’ve won like six of seven or something, some ridiculous amount. We’ve won a lot against Baltimore recently.”

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett is getting slammed on a play against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Steelers could have an amazing seven-game winning streak against the Ravens if not for a dirty hit by Roquan Smith that was not penalized. Mitch Trubisky marched up and down the field against Baltimore, but turned over the ball repeatedly in a 16-14 loss. The Ravens sent the Steelers to their eighth and final loss in 2022. It ultimately was the difference between the two teams in the playoff race.

“A win is a win, and you wanted it to be pretty. You wanted to bounce back from Houston. The fans, I’m sure, wanted pretty,” Roethlisberger continued. “Honestly when it boils down to it, It’s Baltimore. You just want to win the Baltimore game.”

The Steelers are 2-0 in the AFC North after beating their biggest rival, the Baltimore Ravens, and the second highest-paid quarterback in the division. They also beat their pretend rival, the Cleveland Browns, 26-22, and Deshaun Watson, who was guaranteed all of his money in an unprecedented contract.

So far, Pickett is 3-0 against the much higher-paid duo of signal-callers. Pickett has four wins versus one loss to Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC North. The Steelers are not winning pretty, but they are beating the heck out of the division under the second-year signal caller.

The Steelers offense could have been better through the first five weeks. Pickett generated the most critical points of the 2023 season with a 41-yard strike to George Pickens to put the Steelers ahead in the fourth quarter. The defense leads the league in forced fumbles and has scored two touchdowns.

Roethlisberger's podcast has sometimes been controversial, but it has also contained highly insightful observations. He is willing to say what he thinks and, other than occasionally filtering it in his signature style, doesn't shy away from topics he knows will generate criticism. Reminding NFL fans that the Steelers own Jackson and know how to defend him will surely draw plenty of buzz. It's almost like he knows what he's doing by trolling Ravens fans with the comment.

What do you think, Steeler Nation? Is Roethlisberger intentionally provoking Jackson apologists or celebrating a significant win for the Steelers? Let me know what you think. Please comment below or on my Twitter/X: @thebubbasq
