The Pittsburgh Steelers may have finally figured out how to have a more sustainable and balanced offensive attack. The 2026 offseason has proven that the team is committed to running a two-back system while also having a plethora of weapons for the quarterback to throw the ball to. The unit has the potential to be one of the organization's best in some time, but questions do remain in certain areas. Head Coach Mike McCarthy will use training camp and the preseason to figure out who will be deserving of getting to play more often than others.

Steelers Head Coach Mike McCarthy looks out toward the media during his opening press conference on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, which was held at Acrisure Stadium.

There will be a decent amount of continuity, particularly because Aaron Rodgers agreed to return for one more season. Reuniting with McCarthy should give the offense the opportunity to be formidable. With that said, everyone will have to find ways to contribute, whether it is a newcomer or someone who was around throughout the 2025 campaign.

One of the more fascinating individuals on the roster is wide receiver Roman Wilson. He has not done much during his professional career despite being a third-round pick back in 2024. He was injured for pretty much his entire rookie campaign and did not contribute nearly as much as he would have hoped in year two (2025). Now, Germie Bernard is in town after being taken in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

When Mark Kaboly joined The Fan Morning Show on Monday, the receiving corps was brought up. The battle to be third on the depth chart is an interesting one. Unfortunately for Wilson, he displays promise in practices, but hasn't been able to translate that to game days.

"I've always been a Roman Wilson fan until he gets on the field," Kaboly said. "I don't think he's going to get much of an opportunity. Everything you see he does, his work ethic, his practice habits, what he does on the practice field are amazing."

Historically, the Steelers don't just hand starting jobs to rookies right off the bat. This is why Kaboly thinks Wilson will get an early look; however, it might not last very long.

"He just can't transfer it to the field," Kaboly mentioned. "I think it's going to be difficult for him unless he has a good start because I think they'll give him the opportunity first, but if he fails at any point, I think it's going to be tough for him to overtake anything [Germie] Bernard [is going to do]. I think [Bernard is] ready to be a difference-maker."

The Steelers would be in a terrific spot if Wilson earned the trust of Rodgers and the two were clicking come September. This would give Bernard plenty of time to get up to speed. Wilson, though, hasn't been able to prove that he is capable of an expanded role, so the months of July and August are imperative for him.

McCarthy and Co. have their starters pretty much set in the majority of spots. The responsibility of being the third wideout, however, is up for grabs. Bernard may have been selected in the second round, but Wilson isn't too far behind as a third-rounder from 2024.

The coaching staff will need to do whatever it can to remain unbiased so that the best man gets the job. This role will become even more important if one of the top two pass-catchers ends up getting injured at any point throughout the 2026 campaign.

Steelers Finally Have Depth At Wide Receiver

Pittsburgh has struggled in recent years to really break out when it comes to the receiving corps. Now, there appears to be enough weapons in the room to allow Rodgers to do what he does best. The ball will be shared with whomever proves to be trustworthy, so a combination of strong training camps from Wilson and Bernard will be critical. However, Wilson will be the first to have himself pulled out of the lineup if he starts off slow and doesn't prove to be ready to go.
