The Pittsburgh Steelers have a much better roster on paper than they did at this point during the 2025 offseason. There is more depth in certain areas, and the offensive arsenal has been upgraded significantly with the additions of players like Michael Pittman Jr., Germie Bernard, and Rico Dowdle. There's no telling how the season might go, but for now, it looks like the front office did a good job throughout the offseason when it comes to player acquisition. General Manager Omar Khan might not be done making moves however, as he could look to add some more talent before training camp.

One position of note is wide receiver. That spot has already been upgraded over what was there in 2025, but there could be some more additions made. It wouldn't be a crazy, big splash, but probably another veteran wide receiver that could come in and contribute right away. This would add some more depth to the room while also giving quarterback Aaron Rodgers another experienced player to throw the football to. Adding another wide receiver makes sense for a lot of reasons, but the organization already has some younger players at wideout that need to get on the field.
James Harrison recently spoke about potentially adding another wide receiver on an episode of Deebo & Joe. He was pretty against the idea of adding another veteran there, and his reasoning was sound.
"We don't really have that much of an inexperienced receiving corps. Right now, we got DK Metcalf, he has time, and we have Michael Pittman Jr., he has time," Harrison said. "We have younger guys that we are trying to build, you know, for the future, and then develop into what it is that we need. It takes away reps from these guys that we want to get experience to, that we picked up. We have a young guy, Roman Wilson, he's still young. We just picked up Germie Bernard."
Harrison mentioned all of this when discussing the possibility of bringing in a player like Stefon Diggs, who is currently a free agent after being released by the New England Patriots. The Steelers have room for a guy like that, but Harrison would rather prioritize the younger players at the position and make sure they are developing for the future.

Bernard and Roman Wilson are expected to be fighting for the third wide receiver spot on the depth chart. They each have the versatility to play in the slot and on the outside, so if they can each show significant signs of progression in 2026 that would be the best case scenario for the franchise.
Wilson had a bit of a problem getting on Rodgers' good side in 2025, and that is an area that he is certainly trying to improve going into his third season in the league. Rodgers needs to be able to trust his wide receivers, and that is a factor that is going to play a major role in the immediate future of both Wilson and Bernard.
Steelers Have Several Intriguing Veteran Options
Pittsburgh has not shown any signs of being on the hunt for another addition at wide receiver, but it is easy to connect the dots and see that some more experience could be desired in that room. Diggs would certainly be an option, as would another veteran like DeAndre Hopkins. Curtis Samuel is a cheap option that could be a nice change of pace at the position for the Steelers due to his speed as well.

There are plenty of wideouts that are available who are probably waiting for training camp to sign with a team, but the Steelers would likely be better off rolling with Wilson and Bernard in 2026.
