The Pittsburgh Steelers did trade for wide receiver DK Metcalf ahead of the 2025 season, but the offensive output still wasn't what fans and the organization had hoped for. Far too often, Metcalf was able to be schemed out of games because he was essentially the Steelers' only legitimate threat. Defenses and opposing cornerbacks could key in on him, making life difficult for the passing attack throughout much of the year.

Well, in 2026, the Steelers made sure to address that issue by striking a deal with the Indianapolis Colts to acquire veteran wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. It's an exciting addition to the room, and of course, Mike McCarthy taking over as head coach should naturally elevate the offense as well. McCarthy has always been known as an offensive-minded coach, so just by that token alone, this has the chance to be one of the better Steelers offenses we've seen in recent years.
Aaron Rodgers is back for one final ride, something he has already confirmed will be his last season in the NFL. Only this time around, he'll be reunited with the head coach he won a Super Bowl with in McCarthy. Add in Pittman and rookie second-round wide receiver Germie Bernard, and suddenly there are plenty of reasons for optimism surrounding this offense.
That should help open things up considerably, but historically, Rodgers and rookie wide receivers haven't always had the smoothest relationships. Because of that, Steelers fans have naturally been curious about how Bernard and Rodgers would mesh. Fortunately, the early signs have been encouraging. Speaking with FOX54 News Huntsville, Bernard revealed that the chemistry between himself and Rodgers has been steadily growing.
"Coming in as a rookie and him being an NFL veteran, man, he is just teaching me the game," Bernard said. "He is just helping me catch up because he thinks I have the potential to play. He's just pouring into me as much as he can. I just ask questions, and I just try to learn and be a sponge as best as I can. I try to just receive everything he's been telling me because he's played the game for a long time and knows the game."
That's extremely good news for Steeler Nation to hear. If Bernard can quickly earn Rodgers' trust, it could go a long way toward unlocking the full potential of Pittsburgh's offense in 2026. With defenses no longer able to focus solely on Metcalf and with McCarthy running the show, the Steelers could finally have the balanced and explosive attack they've been searching for.

Bernard will compete with another young wide receiver, Roman Wilson, for the slot receiver spot. However, McCarthy has indicated that itβs important for all three wide receivers to be able to line up across the entire receiver route tree, rather than being limited to just one role.
Steelers Should Get Improved Version Of Rodgers In 2026 Season
Rodgers is also likely making a concerted effort to get on the same page with Bernard, knowing how important his development will be in 2026 if this offense is going to reach a true top-tier level. Establishing that chemistry early could be a key factor in unlocking the full potential of Pittsburghβs passing attack.

Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers looks down at his play sheet while he watches practice in street clothes as the team works out during 2025 training camp at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA.
In the 2025 season, Rodgers managed to pass for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. It wasnβt the MVP version of Rodgers, but that was to be expected at this stage of his career. Still, he showed that his arm still had some vintage moments left in him.
If the Steelersβ offensive line can protect him, along with the added help in the wide receiver room, Rodgers could be in line for an even better season in 2026 from a statistical standpoint.
