The Pittsburgh Steelers are entering the 2026 season with one of the most intriguing quarterback rooms in the entire NFL, and rookie signal-caller Drew Allar is wasting no time making the most of the opportunity in front of him. With four-time MVP and future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers leading the way in what he has said will be his final NFL season, Allar is getting a masterclass in professional quarterbacking before he has even played a single regular season snap.

During a recent interview posted to the official Steelers YouTube channel, Allar was asked about his experience working alongside Rodgers during the offseason program. What he said painted a picture of a veteran who is fully invested in the development of the young quarterbacks around him.

"Aaron's been a huge help to not only me, but the whole room," Allar explained. "With me specifically, he's pulled me aside during practice to talk through some drill work or things to focus on throughout different drills. In the film room just pulling or asking me questions of what I was seeing, what I was looking at and why. Just giving me a lot of knowledge. I'm really excited to keep learning from him. Obviously he's one of the best to ever do it in this game. The opportunity I have is one I'm not going to take for granted."

Allar did not stop there. When asked about watching Rodgers' early tape during quarterback school, he was equally glowing. He noted that it has been crazy to see how much better Rodgers has gotten every single year, and that even from practice to practice, you can see his growth. For a 22-year veteran, that kind of dedication to improvement says everything about why he has had the career he has had.

Those are not the words of a young quarterback simply going through the motions of a mandatory offseason program. That is a rookie who understands exactly what is in front of him and is taking full advantage of it. Rodgers has not always been associated with the mentor role throughout his career, which makes moments like this one stand out even more. The fact that he is pulling Allar aside during practice, walking him through drill work, and challenging him in the film room speaks volumes about the kind of environment Mike McCarthy has built inside the Steelers' facility this offseason.

The opportunity in front of Allar is one that does not come around often, and everything about how he has approached this offseason suggests he knows that.

Steelers' Drew Allar Is Taking Full Advantage Of A Once In A Lifetime Opportunity

Allar arrived in Pittsburgh as a third-round pick out of Penn State after a college career that was defined as much by its high moments as its inconsistencies. He was once considered a potential top-10 pick before a series of uneven performances and a season-ending ankle injury contributed to his slide on draft day. Now in Pittsburgh, he finds himself in one of the best possible situations a developmental quarterback could ask for. He has an offensive-minded head coach in McCarthy, a quarterback room full of veterans he can learn from, and perhaps most importantly, a four-time MVP willing to invest time in his growth on a daily basis. The buy-in from the entire organization is clear, and Allar is doing his part by soaking up everything he can before training camp opens in Latrobe.

The Steelers have been searching for their next franchise quarterback since Ben Roethlisberger retired, and while 2026 belongs to Rodgers, the foundation for what comes next is being laid right now. Allar is learning from one of the greatest to ever play the position, in a system built by a coach who knows how to develop quarterbacks, and he is doing it with the hunger and humility of someone who knows exactly what is at stake.

What do you think about Allar's comments on learning from Rodgers heading into the 2026 season?
