Steelers Fans Get Thrilling Hint About Next Offseason Splash For Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers have had some clear and obvious weaknesses over the last several years, and most of those pitfalls have come on the offensive side of the ball. The wide receiver position in particular has been an area of concern, and there was a stretch of time where Pittsburgh seemed to be involved in every trade rumor. The wide receiver room heading into the 2026 season is better than it has been in any recent year, but the depth of the group can still be a bit concerning. An injury or suspension would hurt Pittsburgh's passing game dramatically, and it could be an area for the front office to consider making another addition.

Currently, the top of the wide receiver position is headlined by DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. Those are two, high-quality veterans to lead the way, and Germie Bernard and Roman Wilson are right behind them.

Those two are expected to be battling it out for the third wide receiver spot, and they are each viewed as players with a good amount of potential. There is no doubt that the room is better than it was at this time in 2025, but there should still be some worry.

Beat writer Mark Kaboly appeared on 93.7 The Fan on Monday morning, and he was asked about the veteran wide receivers that are still available on the open market, as well as the depth Pittsburgh has at wide receiver. He expressed some worry, which could lead to another signing at wide receiver. He was asked if the franchise should feel set with the current group at wide receiver.

"Well, right now they are, until there is an injury." Kaboly said. "Unless the blue-haired guy is allowed back in somewhere and gets DK suspended another couple of games. I think they are fine where they are at right now, but I don’t think they can manage an injury or a suspension."

The blue-haired guy that Kaboly is referring to is of course the fan that Metcalf got into it with on the sidelines while the Steelers played at the Detroit Lions during the 2025 campaign. That got him suspended for the final two games of the regular season. Another incident like that, or an injury, could put Pittsburgh in real trouble at wide receiver, which is why a veteran addition must be considered.

Another reason to consider signing another veteran wide receiver is that both Bernard and Wilson should be seen as nothing but players with potential as of right now. Neither has proved much of anything on a NFL field, and it is time to finally do so with the organization, but Pittsburgh might want to bring in an established veteran that can produce immediately without any hiccups.

Some of the top names on the open market at wide receiver include guys like Tyreek Hill and Stefon Diggs, but both of those players would be too expensive and come with a complicated history. A player like JuJu Smith-Schuster could make some sense, which would be a fun reunion in Pittsburgh.

Steelers Could Consider Risky Option At Wide Receiver

Another interesting name that is currently available is Deebo Samuel. He spent the 2025 season with the Washington Commanders after starting his career with the San Francisco 49ers, and he is searching for a new home. He is not the player that he used to be, but he can still be a good contributor for an offense.

His market value, according to Spotrac, sits right around $15 million per season, which would be rather risky for Pittsburgh. The franchise would have to clear up some cap space to make a deal like that work, however the price could be lower if Samuel is not getting a ton of attention from other organizations. That could lead him to sign a one-year, prove-it type of deal.
