Steelers' Rival Ravens Experience "Scary Moment" During OTAs As Derrick Henry Goes Down After Collision

The Pittsburgh Steelers narrowly won the AFC North in the very last game of the NFL's 2025 regular season. It was yet another classic contest against the Baltimore Ravens, and a missed field goal by Tyler Loop at the end of regulation is what caused the Steel City to walk away with the divisional crown. A lot has changed since this matchup, with both teams welcoming new head coaches. Both rosters, however, still have plenty of talent and both organizations could certainly be in it at the very end come December and January. The rivalry continues to remain extremely strong.

One of the Steelers' biggest inconsistencies in recent years has been stopping the opposition's rushing attack. While the defense has done a good job handling Lamar Jackson throughout the quarterback's career, Derrick Henry has been a much different story. The dominant ball carrier ran for 94 and 126 yards, respectively, against Pittsburgh in 2025.

In 2024, he shredded the Steelers for 413 total yards over the course of three showdowns, which included a phenomenal 186-yard, two-touchdown performance in the postseason that had players baffled. As teams across the league participate in Organized Team Activities (OTAs), it is always important to pay attention to what is going on elsewhere. Sometimes there are contract issues that are ongoing, and other times, unfortunate injuries occur.

According to The Athletic's Jeff Zrebiec, a scary collision happened on Tuesday when the Ravens were going through their workout. Initially, it looked pretty bad for Henry, but he was thankfully able to bounce back shortly after.

"Derrick Henry is fine, but [there] was [a] scary moment in today’s OTA where Henry went down after [a] freak [collision]," Zrebiec reported. "A few players took a knee after Henry was down. However, he got up, only missed [a] few plays and returned to practice."

This couldn't have been a fun moment for the new coaching staff in Baltimore. A serious injury to Henry would drastically change the offense. While he is a tough opponent when the Steelers take on the Ravens, injuries are never something to root for, so it is good that the running back is just fine. He told the media afterwards that he was being a little dramatic, per Zrebiec.

"Derrick Henry said he stayed down a bit on the ground after [the] collision because the 'ground felt like a bed' and he felt like media looked hot and bored," Zrebiec posted on X. "Wanted to give media something to tweet. 'Just banged knees. I was fine. I probably laid there too long,' Henry said."

Henry is a massive human being that is often viewed as a bowling ball. He can run over pretty much any defender across the league, but it sounds like he got the worst of this apparent collision.

While there is nothing to worry about in Baltimore currently, the new staff for the Ravens might think twice about getting Henry involved too much moving forward. Football is a violent sport, so anything can happen, but there is no need to risk the health of one of your most vital players in May.

There will be a time and a place for veterans to get legitimate reps, but unfortunate injuries can occur at any time. The collision seems to have been blown out of proportion a little bit, but it serves as an important reminder that teams' top contributors need to be fresh come December.

Steelers' New Defensive Setup Will Have To Contain Henry In 2026

Patrick Graham has a lot of pressure on him to run Pittsburgh's defense properly. The unit is incredibly talented; however, the run defense has fallen short plenty of times in recent years. A healthy Henry is one of the most dominant players in football, and having to play him twice per season is not fun. Going up against him three times is even worse, as the Steelers experienced back in 2024.
