The Pittsburgh Steelers started off the 2026 offseason hot, similarly to how they did the 2025 offseason. A big-time move to acquire a wide receiver via trade in Michael Pittman Jr., and some very high quality signings for reasonable prices in cornerback Jamel Dean and running back Rico Dowdle, have Steeler Nation very happy with Omar Khan and company so far. However, the quarterback position is still a mystery that needs to be solved sooner rather than later.

Steelers quarterbacks Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, and Aaron Rodgers warm up prior to Pittsburgh's 34-12 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 11 of the 2025 NFL regular season.
Many of us believe the Steelers are likely to run it back with the same quarterback room in 2026 that they had in 2025. That group would be headlined by Aaron Rodgers returning for his 22nd NFL season, and then a combination of Mason Rudolph and Will Howard filling the number two and number three roles. Despite that belief, it has still been rather quiet from the organization on what the plan is at quarterback, and feels a lot like last offseason when everyone had to wait until well after the 2025 NFL Draft to find out Rodgers was going to sign with the Steelers.
This year however, there are some extra names that just got thrown into the fold as potential options after being released from their team. The most intriguing name of that group would be veteran quarterback and former first overall pick Kyler Murray. Murray was officially released from the Arizona Cardinals when the new league year for 2026 officially started, and now will be looking for a new home after spending his first seven seasons out West.
Despite some initial curiosity from Steelers fans, as well as some speculation that the Steelers and Murray could be interested in one another, not everyone thinks it's a realistic possibility. Steelers insider Mark Kaboly addressed the possibility of Murray coming to the Steelers when joining 93.7 The Fan. Needless to say, he doesn't see it happening.
"0.0%," said Kaboly. "Let me tell you a story about this stuff. When you hear a lot of the national guys saying, 'Kyler Murray is now a free agent and all indications point toward...' that means darn well he's signing there. But they probably told the agent I won't say it until it is official. Everyone has the same wording of it, so everyone knows he's going to Minnesota."
Well, that wraps that up pretty quickly on the hype, if it can even be called that. Murray is scheduled to visit with the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday, March 12, so the indications that the Vikings and Murray have mutual interest in one another is now becoming official with the visit.

There is no doubt that if the Steelers were to have interest in signing Murray to be their quarterback that it would come with some major benefits. The biggest benefit is that Murray will very likely sign for the veteran minimum since the Cardinals are on the hook for a large amount of money, similar to how Russell Wilson was from the Denver Broncos when the Steelers signed him in 2024.
While it seems like the possibility of the Steelers signing Murray looks bleak, and according to Kaboly '0.0%.', should Murray look to visit more than one team to truly evaluate all his options, it shouldn't surprise anyone if the Steelers make that list.
The Steelers' FA Period Started Hot And More Moves Could Be On The Way
Khan didn't waste any time when the legal tampering period started to get their top priorities locked up. However, the Steelers did lose some free agents as well, including Isaac Seumalo, which leaves a hole at left guard with the starting offense.

As of now, Spencer Anderson is penciled in there to be the starter, and he has started games there which gives the Steelers some confidence should that be the option. However, there is still plenty of time for the Steelers to make additions to the guard position, and Kaboly believes that is what they will do by making a big move for a starting guard instead of just putting full faith in Anderson to be that starter.
