The Pittsburgh Steelers have many choices to make in the young offseason. They have a lot of free agents and players who are awaiting to be re-signed. One of these players has consistently been among the best at his position and has established himself as a Steeler great. The Steelers should make the future legend the highest-paid at his position to ensure he stays with the team and continues the consistency the franchise has had at his position for over a decade.

That player would be kicker Chris Boswell, who is looking to be extended, and the Steelers should do it sooner rather than later. They will look to this offseason to keep the kicker in Pittsburgh. According to insider Mark Kabolythe team would be wise to keep Boswell.

"Boswell is one of the most accurate kickers in the NFL. He wanted a raise last year, but didn't get it. He will get it this year and will flirt with being the highest-paid kicker in the NFL," said Kaboly.

Boswell has been the Steelers' crutch many times in his career. The kicker has bailed out the team with multiple games where he has made six field goals. One of them was in the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs in 2017 against the Kansas City Chiefs. Boswell had the team's 18 points all on his lonesome and bailed the Steelers out of a poor offensive performance. The Steelers would win based on Boswell's perfect game, 18-16, and advanced to the AFC Championship. This is just one example of how vital Boswell has been for the Steelers in his career.

Boswell shows up in big games, which is one of the most important qualities of a kicker. A kicker can be accurate, but mess up when it matters. Boswell continuously delivers in both circumstances. He is one of the most accurate kickers in the game, as he is the sixth most accurate kicker ever, with an 87.68% field goal percentage.

Boswell has been selected to the Pro Bowl twice in his career, once in 2017 and again in 2024. He was a First Team All-Pro in 2024 after he led the league in field goals made (41) and in points scored (158). As seen by his accolades, Boswell has been very good for a very long time. He comes up big for the Steelers time and time again. The Steelers have plenty of holes on their roster, and by keeping their kicker consistent, that is just one less position they would need to worry about.

Steelers Can't Lose Boswell

The Steelers can't afford to lose their most consistent player. They are known for their legendary players, and Boswell has earned his name being included in that conversation. The Steelers have many positions to address in the upcoming NFL Draft and in free agency. The team is looking to improve after a disappointing 2025 season. If they lose Boswell, the team will have to look for his replacement. A job that would be nearly impossible. The only debatably better kicker in the NFL would be the Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey, who is looking for a big contract this offseason as well. The two kickers will likely set the kicker market. The Steelers need to act fast so that they can set the market before Aubrey does. Aubrey can decline his second-round tender and could make over $6 million a year.

The Steelers will hope to ink the deal as soon as they're able to keep their franchise kicker in Pittsburgh and maintain control of the kicker market. The Steelers need to maintain consistency at the position and keep the league's best at the position.
