The Steelers Have A Legitimate Wild Card Chance As Richard Sherman Calls The Bills A "Flimsy 2-Seed"

The Pittsburgh Steelers managed to sneak into the playoffs once again this year as a seven-seed in the AFC, going up against the two-seeded Buffalo Bills on Wild Card Weekend. They found success with Mason Rudolph at the helm of the quarterback position and are riding with him as the starter for this week's game. With Rudolph at quarterback and the Steelers' best defensive player TJ Watt missing the game due to injury, the Bills are the obvious favorites to win. With terrible weather, injuries, and uncertainties, this game could look very old school and could be just what the Steelers need to get the victory.

The Steelers Beat The Bills In 2005 With Their Backups

The Steelers are 17-12 all-time against the Bills and have produced some exciting games in the past. This week's game could look very similar to when the Steelers beat the Bills in 2005 with their backups. In this game, names like James Harrison and Willie Parker, who were practically unknown at the time, came out of nowhere and played phenomenally. Although at the time the Steelers sat at 15-1 with much better bench players than they have now, the game Sunday could still look the same with a collective of benchwarmers coming together to prove everyone wrong and get the win.

That year, the Steelers would end up losing in the Conference Championship against the New England Patriots. But that game would be what set them up for the year to follow as they would beat the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL. In that game, names like Harrison and Parker would play a vital role in helping the Steelers get their fifth ring.

Richard Sherman Not Sold on Bills

Although the Bills will be a tough matchup for the Steelers this week, they are not unbeatable. Josh Allen is not Superman and can throw interceptions from time to time. With Minkah Fitzpatrick and Damontae Kazee both slated to come back, this game is not a lock for the Bills. Former Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman commented his thoughts on this Bills team while on UNDISPUTED and it should hopefully give Steelers fans encouragement going into this game.

"Buffalo is kind of a flimsy two-seed. You know they are not the two-seed where you are like, hey, they've been dominant. They've won five straight, give them credit for that, but it hasn't been a dominant team where you're like they should definitely beat Pittsburgh."

This year's playoffs aren't like how they normally are. There isn't one team that stands out above the rest. The Kansas City Chiefs have been struggling all year and don't look like what they did last year. There is no Tom Brady to just appear out of nowhere and find his way into the Super Bowl either. This year, it is anyone's game and that is why you shouldn't be surprised if the Steelers find a way to beat the Bills and keep moving on.

"I can see a scenario where Pittsburgh makes this a muddy grimy game and they come out of it with a win."

Pittsburgh could be a scary team to watch going into the playoffs. They have nothing to lose, nobody expects them to do well with Watt out and Rudolph at quarterback. Nobody expects Tomlin to get his first playoff win since the 2016 season. There are barely any starters on Sunday who have played in a playoff game, so why should anyone believe in them? The biggest thing is the underdog mentality that has always been in the Steelers. They play their best games when no one expects them to win, which is why they could be a threat in this year's playoffs.

No matter what happens at the end of Sunday's game for the Steelers, to go 10-7 and somehow make the playoffs is just another nod to Head Coach Mike Tomlin.
