When you think of legendary running backs that have played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, a few names come to mind. None are "bigger" than the great Jerome Bettis. Bettis, otherwise known as "The Bus," was exactly that. When teams went against him, it was like an actual bus would hit the defenders. This is what made him such an icon in the NFL.

In 2015, Bettis would finally etch his name in history as he was voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Some of the awards that got him into Canton were being the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, NFL Comeback Player of the Year, Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, a six-time Pro Bowler, and a Super Bowl champion to top it off.

The Steelers winning Super Bowl XL is what led Bettis into getting inducted into the Hall of Fame. It was the perfect situation for him. The game was played in his hometown of Detroit, the Steelers were one of the most explosive teams in the league, and he got the chance to go off on his terms as a Super Bowl champion.

Recently Bettis has taken up a new position on the Pro Football Hall of Fame Village's board of directors. The Hall of Fame Village is a resort built for the Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. The project is currently under construction, but will have shopping, a waterpark, and a hotel for guests to stay at. The facilities also have a 100,000-square-foot area that will be held for events. Some of their future events include having the Zac Brown Band, comedian Bill Burr, and the Fantasy Football Expo.

Bettis will be accompanied by Hall of Fame running back, Marcus Allen as the only two former NFL players on the board. Their jobs will be to use the game of football to impact the lives of fans through this experience. Bettis plans that in being a part of this organization, he can help preserve the legacy of the game.

"I am truly honored to be a part of the Hall of Fame Resort & Entertainment Company Board of Directors. As a former player, I understand the impact that football has on the lives of fans, and I am excited to contribute to the growth and development of this incredible organization. It is a privilege to be involved in shaping the future of Hall of Fame Village and its commitment to providing unforgettable experiences, and I look forward to working alongside my fellow board members to preserve the rich legacy of football and create new opportunities for generations to come."

After his time in the NFL, Bettis has kept himself busy. In 2022, he went back to the University of Notre Dame to complete his studies. In 2014, he joined ESPN as an NFL analyst and would regularly appear on NFL Live and SportsCenter. Before this, he would make guest appearances on different shows over the years. His most notable appearance was working NFL Sunday Countdown in 2011 during Super Bowl XLV when the Steelers went up against the Packers. All of this experience is what made Michael Crawford who is the CEO and President of the Hall of Fame Village, want to get Bettis on their board.

"Jerome’s outstanding career on and off the field, coupled with his commitment to youth development and community engagement, align perfectly with our company’s mission, vision, and values. His expertise and passion for football and people will be vital as we work towards creating one-of-a-kind experiences for fans and continue to grow each of our business verticals."
